About Me

This blog is a weekly account of my day to day life activities, thoughts, and/or feelings regarding the at-risk adolescent and young adult population. We all listen to the same music, go to the same places, have the same goals and aspiration, and eat the same food - basically we're not all as different as society wants us to believe. Our difference lines in the way we perceive ourselves not in who we innately are. Unfortunately at-risk you have may have a less holistic and unified outlook on their lives, my hope is that this site can be used to change that mentality.

Who am I?

I'm a second year Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Florida State University. I'm originally from South Florida however I've been in the Tallahassee area for a couple years. I got into this counseling career field because I had a desire to have a more "hands on" approach when working with people opposed to some careers. I have come to realize that I enjoy being apart of viewing the growth with others, either through physical, emotional and/or spiritual growth. This career allows for that exact thing - and much more!! From the day I started the program I knew that I wanted to work with older adolescents and young adult, mainly those transitioning from childhood to adulthood, hence the focal point of the blog.

Why am I doing this blog?

Honestly - this is a class assignment! However with the way technology has penetrated all aspects of our lives, I found it to benefit to play with the idea of incorporating modern tools into counseling so that I can stay ahead of the curve. It also dawned on me that this would be an excellent opportunity for me to learn how to develop my skills in researching resources on my own, both locally and those not. Lastly this blog will  allow for other professionals working with the same population to receive insight about available help or be able to contribute additional resources that can be used in the workforce.
